Vernon Hills Review
Vernon Hills Review Sports

  • Follow your team during the holidays
High school basketball tournaments are as much a part of the holidays as spending time with the family and shopping. WeÂ’ll be at many of the sites and posting same-day coverage of local teams. Get results from Saturday's matchups at the Jacobs Holiday Classic boys tournament and the Blue Devil Classic girls tournament at Warren High School .
  • Weaver glad that he changed 'lanes'
Officially, he was 32nd in the state as a freshman. That standing could only improve in three years time as Chris Weaver grew bigger and stronger and more comfortable on the lanes. Weaver and older brother Jordan helped the Vernon Hills High School's boys bowling team to third place in the state two years ago.
  • Knopoff just misses 300 game

He didn't roll the worst game of the night but it was close. Vernon Hills High School junior Brandon Knopoff was nowhere to be found after a 153 game on Tuesday against Deerfield.

  • Kisley turns in solid showing

    What's going around?

  • Talk about a turnaround
This transformation borders on the improbable. Bobby Kelly finished the wrestling season last winter with a 25-21 record. But the Vernon Hills High School senior is roaring through the first month -- piling up a 20-0 mark in the 189-pound class.
  • Burton, Skeens own boards in this win

The girls basketball team at Round Lake visited Vernon Hills last week.

  • Cougars value Morgan's play

Vernon Hills High School sophomore guard Chris Morgan has an interesting way of keeping the Cougars loose in practice.

  • Epner leading team -- in last-second shots
He's not looking to break any school scoring records. Vernon Hills High School's Jeff Epner will leave that in the capable hands of a Kenny Rideout or a Chris Morgan. But, that doesn't mean that this point guard doesn't have a flair for the dramatic, when it comes to puttin' up buzzer-beating shots.
  • Rose a standout at Cougar Invite

That 255 game sure helped out his score in the Cougar Invitational.

  • Rideout stars in Northridge Prep tourney
An 0-fer tourney was a real possibility — until Kenny Rideout took over the game. Vernon Hills High School was 1-3 in the Northridge Prep Tournament. The Cougars used 9 fourth-quarter points by the 6-foot-5 Rideout to beat Chicago Latin 41-40 on Saturday night.
  • Inman takes 7th at invite

Opening with a 225 game helped Wendy Inman to a good finish at the Stevenson Invite on Saturday.

  • Cougars' Daniels: Instant Success

His physical abilities are easy to spot.

  • Nagle's return sparks Cougars

The big news here is that Kelly Nagle is back. And the Vernon Hills High School girls basketball team is glad.

  • Fields delivers in state semifinal loss
It wasn't exactly a proclamation. But Carmel Catholic running back Geoffrey Fields had no intention of backing down in the second half of Saturday's battle against Lake Zurich. "We had to get it in (the end zone)," said Fields, referring to a second-half opportunity. "I told my teammates to give me the ball."
  • Rideout will be Cougars' featured player

Kenny Rideout had a solid junior campaign -- but he knew there was work to be done.

  • Tazzioli takes eighth in state diving

Brittany Tazzioli isn't a fan of large crowds.

  • A drive of distinction
Some of the visiting fans were booing when the ball was placed on the 1-yard line. Quite a bit later - this 99-y
