Extra Credit is an online newsletter, produced twice a year, designed to help teachers looking for timely information on economic and personal finance topics, lesson plans, and ideas for use in the classroom. Each issue also includes a calendar of upcoming teacher workshops or other events sponsored by the Fed or its education partners.

  • Extra Credit, Fall 2007
    This online economic and financial education newsletter is designed for classroom teachers in middle and high school. Published twice a year, Extra Credit provides informative articles, lesson plans and activities, teaching tips, and a calendar of teaching workshops and events. Articles in the fall 2007 issue focus on Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke and Atlanta Fed President Dennis Lockhart discussing education, a new Spanish transcript of the DVD of Katrina's Classroom personal finance curriculum, the Atlanta Fed's second annual Lesson Plan of the Year contest, the benefits and costs to foreign countries of dollarizing their economies, and the advantages to students of opening a bank account.

Articles in the spring 2007 issue focus on the premiere of Katrina's Classroom: Financial Lessons from a Hurricane, a new DVD and lesson plan package designed to teach middle and high school students the importance of being financially prepared; the winner of the Lesson Plan of the Year contest; an article discussing the importance of maintaining a good credit history; and an article and activities about the effect of energy on the U.S. economy.
