Roberts Wesleyan College announces a one-of-a-kind program for the area: a master's in music education degree designed for the full-time teacher. Taught by qualified music professors, participants can earn their degree and a profession certification in K-12 music education in only two years by attending class just one night a week and taking shortened summer sessions.
Â
"This program reflects a vision of teaching excellence that integrates reflective practice, advanced learning, instructional distinction, and ongoing personal and professional growth," said Dr. Kristyn Kuhlman, head of the music department at the college. "The program is convenient, too - teachers can earn their professional certification without sacrificing professional or personal responsibilities. They even get to enjoy most of their summer without having to teach or attend classes."
Â
Students will take courses on music education methodologies and curriculum, which provide a practical framework for classroom work. They will also take courses in technology, music theory, conducting, and performance, allowing for the practical application of enhanced musical skills. In addition, they will take courses in research methods, which introduce them to a variety of literature in music education and equip them to independently investigate issues related to individual teaching situations.
Â
"At Roberts, we know that potential students always evaluate the quality of a program, convenience, and cost," Kuhlman added. "In the design of this program we've addressed all three. With the college being the most affordable private college in the area, potential students should also investigate whether their school district would offer tuition reimbursement for graduate coursework taken here - many do."
Â
This is one of a growing number of accelerated programs the college offers. In addition to this program, the college offers accelerated master's programs in health administration, nursing education, strategic leadership, and strategic marketing. It also offers accelerated bachelor's programs in organizational management, public administration, and a degree completion program in nursing.
