Steve Dahl's Daily Blog

7:19 - After dinner everyone went to go play games. Steve didn't think he wanted to play videogames be he liked it. He wasn't very good, he got beaten by Brendan and was terrible at skee-ball. Mary beat him at a football toss game and then when he tied her she refused to let him play. Steve played a racing game and a motorcycle game also. Hopefully there are no pictures of Steve on top of the motorcycle.

The Jack FM/B96 Holiday Party is now part of broadcasting history. Actually, it wasn’t that historic, but it was a lot of fun. We had it at Dave & Buster’s on Clark Street and even though it sounded like a dopey idea to me at first, playing those arcade games was a lot of fun. The food was good too, and everybody at both stations seems really nice and easygoing. I can’t really tell how hammered people were, since I don’t know most of them very well and in some cases had never met them...

The JackFM/B96 combo Christmas or “Holiday” party as CBS politically correctly calls it, is Thursday afternoon. For security purposes, I cannot tell you where it is, but in fact, I think I might have let it slip on the air a few times. Buzz has two rules for survival in Chicago radio: (1) Do not “bad rap” Steve Dahl. That doesn’t mean you can’t make fun of me, but according to Buzz you can’t say evil stuff about me that will make people question my mental and or professional abilities. That seems like it would be an irresistible thing to do, but I appreciate Buzz making the effort. (2) Never miss the station Christmas party. The second thing seems more reasonable.

How great is it that Drew Peterson has his own web site now? It’s to help raise money for his defense and it’s called defenddrew.com. Strangely, as I went there to copy the link, it came back as suspended. I am writing this on Tuesday night at 8:27. Maybe by the time you read this, Drew’s site will be back up and running, maybe it won’t. He got a ton of publicity on Tuesday for it and it must be KILLING him that it’s not up. I was going to donate a few dollars just to keep the whole Drew Peterson train rolling, but sadly, now I can’t. The site even features (featured) the “Parrothead” picture.

I have taken to reheating food in the microwave with Pyrex measuring cups. I have a one-cup, a two-cup and a four-cup model. Why just yesterday I used the two-cup model to reheat some BBQ pork egg foo young. I heated up two patties separately, I could have gone with two patties in the four-cup Pyrex cup, but I like to eat them one at a time. The Pyrex doesn’t heat up in the microwave, it only takes on the heat of the food, and the glass handle makes eating not only easy, but also fun...

I have to say that a Sunday without the mediocre football antics of the Bears is very relaxing. I watched a little bit of the Packers slaughter of the Raiders, some Cowboys beating the Lions, and some Tom Brady against the Steelers. How is it that the Bears always miss out on a franchise quarterback? I mean Tony Romo grew up around here, Brady went to college in Michigan and Brett Favre; well it seems like he could have been talked out of the godforsaken hole that is Green Bay. Of course that would have taken either money or foresight. Occasionally, the Bears have both, but usually never at the same time. I hope that next Sunday we get to se some Air Orton. He could be the guy, you never know. He did a pretty good job a few years ago.

I fully meant to get this blog up on Thursday afternoon, but I ended up doing some snow shoveling and ice breaking on my beloved driveway, and getting a three hour Thai massage. You know how I feel about the ice and snow cut lines on my driveway, and these days since all of the plows are run by Mexicans, one has to go out and do some cleanup work. I managed to turn it into my cardio for Thursday and burned 975 calories. That’s called multi-tasking, my friend. And it makes eating pizza during the Bears game even easier.

In anticipation of the Bears game on Thursday night we will be talking to Jeff Joniak on Thursday morning at 7:30. Jeff will presumably be calling us from his hotel room in Washington D.C. Maybe we can play guess the price on the room service menu with him. I’m always very good at that once I know the quality level of the hotel. It would seem that the Bears would stay in cheap hotels, because the McCaskeys are allegedly penurious, but in fact they usually stay in very nice places. Jeff seems like the kind of guy who might try and pocket his per diem rather than spend it on breakfast. We’ll see what happens when we talk to him Thursday morning.

don’t know if it’s a smash hit or not, but 'Bolingbrookville' also didn’t receive any cease and desist orders. We will play it again tomorrow. The only way you can hear it for now is to listen to the show. We can’t put it on the podcast, and I can’t make it downloadable in any way shape or form. That’s not to protect Drew Peterson, but it does keep Jimmy Buffett happy. We talked to Janet Shamlian (NBC) and Anita Padilla (FOX 32) on Tuesday from right in front of Drew’s house. Who knows who will call in on Wednesday? How great would it be if the Drewster actually called in himself? I guess I don’t really see that happening, but it’s fun to think about. And a little bit scary too.

Here’s a little something I’m working on. Tune in Tuesday morning to hear the finished version on the air…

There’s a lot going on on The Steve Dahl Show every day, but there’s even more than usual going on Monday morning. We will talk Bears game (as per usual) with Tom Thayer at 7:00. I get a lot of emails from people who love our postgame chats with Tom, and I have to agree, nobody analyzes a Bears game like good old #57 (circa 1985). Whether it’s a Bears win or a Bears loss, as it was on Sunday, Tom breaks it down and gives us hope for the future. It’s a lot more fun when you think the Bears have a future.
