  • CANYON ROBOTICS TEAMS EARN HONORS AT FIRST LEGO LEAGUE TOURNAMENTS
    Earlier this month, the Canyon Elementary Robotics teams made it into the top 10 at the First Lego League (FLL) regional tournament and went on to compete, along with 32 teams across the state, at the FLL State Championships at Arizona State University.

    The Peoria Unified School District (PUSD) has scheduled Future Freshman Nights in January and February to introduce current eighth-graders and their parents to PUSD high schools.

  • SUNRISE MOUNTAIN AND LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE CHRISTMAS ANGELS TO LUCKY VALLEY CHILDREN
    There will be some very happy children this holiday season thanks to Sunrise Mountain and Liberty high school students. For the second year, Civil Engineering and Drafting students volunteered their time to build dollhouses to be donated to the Christmas Angel Foundation. The dollhouses will be given to needy children for Christmas.

    Last weekend, boys’ elementary basketball teams from the Peoria Unified School District competed in the fourth-annual Hoops for the Holidays basketball tournament at Country Meadows Elementary School.
  • COYOTE HILLS STUDENTS IN FINALS OF HONEYWELL FIESTA BOWL AEROSPACE CHALLENGE
    Seventh-graders Ryan Call, Zachary Cooper and Tyler Hamre from Coyote Hills Elementary School placed in the top six at the Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge. The team, coached by teacher Deb Jones, will compete in the final event Friday, Jan. 2 at the Challenger Space Center in Peoria.

    The Peoria Unified School District (PUSD) Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department has been awarded the prestigious Golden Bell Award from the Arizona School Board Association (ABSA) for the District’s Total Career and Technical Education Program. The award will be presented at the ASBA luncheon, beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11 at The Arizona Grand Resort, 7777 South Pointe Parkway in Phoenix.

  • NEW PHS PROGRAM TO TEACH STUDENTS HOW TO TRAIN SERVICE DOGS
    Peoria High School is partnering with The Foundation for Service Dog Support, Inc. (FSDS) for a one-of-a-kind program that will allow high school students to earn credits while learning the necessary skills to train service dogs for individuals with disabilities. The Puppy Raising Program is open to twelve students in their junior year of high school who will raise and train the puppies. Three additional spots are also available for students who will serve as foster parents to the puppies.
