• Stabenow Announces Clare Site for Veterans’ Health Clinic
  WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) today announced that a location has officially been selected to build the new Clare Veterans’ clinic. Stabenow has led the fight to secure new VA health clinics in Michigan and strengthen veterans’ access to health care working with veterans and community leaders across the state. Alpena Marc will be building the new clinic, which will be located in Vernon Township at 11775 N. Isabella Rd. This clinic will help ease the burden of veterans in Clare and the surrounding area who regularly make long and often difficult trips to VA hospitals in other parts of the state to receive basic medical services.

The new clinics are expected to be open in early 2010. • Stabenow, Colleagues Extend Unemployment Insurance
  Michigan and other hardest-hit states will receive 13-week extension of benefits WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) today announced passage of legislation that will provide a seven-week extension of unemployment insurance to people who have exhausted their current benefits and still cannot find work. States like Michigan, with a 6% unemployment rate or higher, will be given an additional seven weeks of benefits, for a total extension of 13 weeks. This legislation comes on the heels of a recent report by the Department of Labor citing Michigan’s latest unemployment rate at a staggering 9.3%.

• Stabenow, Mission of Peace Hail Over $12.5 Million in New Federal Aid to Help Area Families Facing Foreclosure
  FLINT, MI —U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) today joined with Mission of Peace President & CEO Reverend Elmira Smith-Vincent and Mayor Don Williamson to discuss how over $12.5 million in new federal aid will assist area families facing foreclosure. Stabenow was able to help secure $11.7 million for Genesee County and the City of Flint as part of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 and an additional $98 million for the Michigan state program general fund to help additional communities across the state. Michigan is currently sixth nationwide in number of foreclosures.

• Stabenow: Auto Retooling Program Will Help Keep Jobs in Michigan
  WASHINGTON —U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow, (D-MI) today announced the final agreement as part of the continuing resolution on the budget to include $25 billion in low-interest loans to automobile manufacturers for retooling older factories. The Advanced Technology Vehicle Incentives program authored by Senator Stabenow will allow automakers to produce the next generation of vehicles here at home. This provision is designed to revitalize the economy and comes at a time when Michigan’s unemployment rate leads the nation at 8.9%.
• Senate Passes Critical Renewable Energy Incentives to Create Jobs
  WASHINGTON —U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) today announced Senate passage of the Jobs, Energy, Families, and Disaster Relief Act of 2008. This legislation includes numerous tax incentives to create jobs by increasing the production of alternative energy. The legislation also provides support to middle-class families in need of tax relief and allocates disaster relief to areas throughout Michigan damaged by floods earlier this year.
• Stabenow Announces Congressional Passage of Great Lakes Compact Resolution, Will Now Be Sent to the President
  WASHINGTON —U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) today announced House passage of the Great Lakes Compact resolution, which will establish new rules to protect the Great Lakes from the serious threats of water withdrawals and diversions. Stabenow is a cosponsor of the Great Lakes Compact Resolution, which passed the Senate this July. The resolution will now proceed to the President for his signature.
