    Question:   What is the U.S. reaction to the "return home" resolution being considered by the Turkish government that would grant amnesty to some PKK members? Answer: The United States welcomes such efforts by Turkey's sovereign leaders to resolve the PKK problem and eliminate terrorism.

    The United States congratulates the European Union on the signing of the Treaty of Lisbon. This action by the Heads of Government of the Member States of the Union represents the culmination of several years of efforts designed to enhance the functioning of the EU.
  • Peru Trade Promotion Agreement Signing Ceremony
    I am delighted that today President Bush signed into law the United States-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement. This is the culmination of a process that began May 18, 2004 when our two nations initiated formal negotiations. I salute the considerable efforts of the Office of the United States Trade Representative and the Peruvian Ministry of Trade in negotiating this agreement, and I congratulate the United States Congress for approving the agreement by such an overwhelming margin.

  • Application Fees for Non-Immigrant Visas to Increase On January 1, 2008
    Effective January 1, 2008, the application fee for a U.S. non-immigrant visa will increase from $100 to $131.  This increase allows the Department to recover the costs of security and other enhancements to the non-immigrant visa application process.  This increase applies both to non-immigrant visas issued on machine-readable foils in passports and to border crossing cards issued to certain applicants in Mexico.
