- Family of man mistakenly thought dead sues medical officials
A lawsuit filed by the family of a living man who was declared dead and taken to a morgue alleges the mistake led to injuries from which he might never recover. Larry D. Green was waking across a highway north of Louisburg in 2005 when he was hit by a car. The lawsuit filed this month says medical officials inadequately checked his vital signs after the accident. He was put into a body bag and sent to the morgue, where a medical examiner began a forensic examination. The lawsuit says emergency responders at the scene didn't use monitors that would have showed that Green's heart was beating. It also alleges that the medical examiner disregarded signs that Green was alive.
- Investigators Remaining Tight-Lipped About Murder at Night Club
Almost two days after someone murdered a disc jockey inside a nightclub in the east, officers are remaining tight-lipped about their investigation. On Thursday morning the Jones County Sheriff's Office confirmed the victim is 24-year-old Alvin Smith Jr. of Jacksonville.
Other than that, investigators aren't saying much about the case.
Nine On Your Side's Philip Jones is trying to piece together what happened at the club, and explains why some say investigators could be keeping quiet.
Judging from a video posted on YouTube, it seems like “Fatt Daddyz” night club in Jones County is a place with plenty going on.
What's not clear, though, is exactly what was going on in the club early Wednesday morning when 24-year-old Alvin Smith Jr. was murdered.
We tried calling the club's owner -- Carlos Green -- to find out. But the number listed on the club's temporary liquor license was disconnected.
Witnesses say Smith was the DJ at the crowded club when six men barged in and began arguing with him.
A man who claims he works security at “Fatt Daddyz” says that after a couple of minutes, one of the men shot Smith twice in the chest from close range.
Investigators, on the other hand, aren't saying much of anything at all.
The Jones County Sheriff's Department isn't releasing any details about the case.
The SBI is also investigating. And even though Nine On Your Side asked it to confirm the witness' story, all we got was an email saying agents are actively pursuing leads.
Morehead City Police Chief Wrenn Johnson says the media plays a vital role in getting important information out to the public. But she says there are times when investigators won't tell reporters everything they know.
“There are certain times when we need information out, and there are certain times when we need to keep that information close to our vest,” Johnson said. “Sometimes when we give out too much information too soon, we jeopardize our case, which really just victimizes the families of the victim again.
Whatever the case may be here, why investigators won't tell us anything about the crime is just as unclear as exactly what happened in the club in the first place.
There is still no word yet on how many -- if any -- suspects the investigators are tracking.

- Arrest in Child Neglect Case at Day Care Center
A woman is behind bars tonight on charges of child abuse in connection with an incident at a federally funded day care facility. It's a story we've been following for more than a week here. Police arrested 34-year-old Sukisshi Anita Hayes of Kinston today. Hayes is a bus monitor on a bus for Green Lamp Head Start child care center. Adrian Larry, the mother of Chamere Arnold says that her son was left on the bus for nine hours last week outside the side the day care center. Teachers at the day care center thought that Chamere was absent from school that day. Bus drivers and bus monitors usually check off students as they get on the bus but somehow they missed Chamere. Hayes is out on bond and faces misdemeanor child abuse charges. Kinston police say more arrests are expected.
